Lot & Gavel is a marketplace for pre-owned handbags, watches, jewelry and clothing. Every piece is inspected in our New York studio before it ships, and comes with a written record of where it came from, what condition it’s in and who has owned it.

How it works

How a piece gets to you

We handle authentication, grading and shipping ourselves, so every item meets the same standard, whoever is selling it.

How we authenticate
  1. 01

    Sourcing

    Our buyers in New York and Los Angeles buy from private collections, estates and established dealers. Independent sellers apply first, and their pieces go through exactly the same checks as ours.

  2. 02

    Authentication

    A specialist in the category inspects every item in our studio: materials, construction, stamps, serial numbers and hardware. Anything over $10,000 gets a second, independent review. If we can’t verify it, we don’t sell it.

  3. 03

    Grading

    We grade condition on a five-point scale and photograph every mark, scratch and repair, so the listing shows exactly what you’ll receive.

  4. 04

    Delivery

    Orders ship insured, with signature on delivery and a printed ledger card in the box. If you sell the piece through us later, its history carries over to the next owner.
